The law firm of “Frishberg & Partners” is now fluent in Italian
The international law firm of “Frishberg & Partners” is currently the only foreign law firm in Ukraine, which provides legal services in Italian.
The Italian practice is headed by Alessandro Terzi, a senior attorney, who recently joined the Frishberg & Partners team. Mr. Terzi specializes in M&A transactions, structuring foreign investment and due diligence. Presentation of the law firm to Italian business community takes place on Wednesday, May 16 in Kiev, accompanied by new legal reference guide of “Getting Started in Ukraine”.

Investment support Web-portal opening
Vladimir Lukovich, a senior associate with the Kiev law firm of Frishberg & Partners, was one of the speakers at the opening of the Investment Support web-portal of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, on April, 16. The event was organized by Softline, one of the leading soft line developers in Ukraine. The portal is aimed to support investors providing them with the latest information about Ukraine’s investment climate, as well as promoting the country on the international arena.
In his presentation, Mr. Lukovich emphasized the importance of obtaining the latest information in rapidly changing legal and political environment and stressed upon the high value of close collaboration between different state organizations. Mr. Lukovich added that the web-portal, the first official informational portal of Ukraine, is a great leap forward.

The Adam Smith Conference, Ukraine’s Investment Summit, that took place in London on 12-14 March, offered unrivalled insights into recent market trends and investment opportunities. This year, over 500 representatives from 22 countries took part in it.

Alex Frishberg of Frishberg & Partners participated in the Swedish-Ukrainian Business Club seminar in Kyiv.
Alex Frishberg, a senior partner with the law offices of Frishberg & Partners delivered a speech at the business seminar “Ukraine as a business partner”, held on 7-8 February, in Kyiv, Ukraine. The event, arranged by Swedish-Ukrainian Business Club jointly with "Nordpraktik - New Managers for Ukraine" Program, was dedicated to the issues of foreign investment to development of business in Ukraine, industrial analysis, as well as to financing of the development of Swedish business on the territory of Ukraine.
In his speech on "Options for establishing business in Ukraine: considerations, implications and recommendations", Mr. Frishberg highlighted the legal aspects of companies' formation, selection of appropriate business forms, registration process, strategic investment and taxation. Special emphasis was placed on acquisitions of corporate rights in the companies and real property related thereto, and the due diligence on real property objects.
Swedish-Ukrainian Business Club was established on June 21, 2006 as a non-governmental organization to support a platform for business development between Ukraine and Sweden by joining the forces of Swedish and Ukrainian companies, individuals and other partners into one joint network.

The law offices of Frishberg & Partners expand: Alessandro Terzi relocates from Italy to practice in Ukraine.
Alessandro Terzi has been appointed senior associate for the Kyiv office of the American-owned law firm Frishberg & Partners. He will concentrate on M&A transactions, structuring foreign investment and performing due diligence in acquisitions of buildings and land for the firm’s Italian clients. Mr. Terzi’s previous experience includes working for an Italian non-governmental organization in Kyiv and for the subsidiary of an Italian construction company in Russia. He graduated from the law faculty of the University of Turin, Italy (1999), with a specialization in International and Comparative Law. Mr. Terzi is fluent in Russian, English, Italian and Spanish.

Alex Frishberg, a senior partner with the law offices of Frishberg & Partners participated in the Ukrainian Real Estate International
Forum, held on 28-29 November 2006 in Kiev, Ukraine. The event, arranged by Adam Smith Institute to draw attention to the growing Ukrainian real estate market, gathered about 380 participants from Switzerland, UK, Israel, Russia, Austria, Germany, Luxemburg and other countries, as well as representatives of international developers, investment advisors.
In his speech on "Structuring Foreign Investment in Ukrainian Real Property", Mr.Frishberg highlighted legal aspects of the real estate transactions and investment processes in Ukraine, drawing special attention to structuring real estate transactions via acquisition of corporate rights, land lease for greenfield projects and investment opportunities in the unfinished construction, among others.

Russel 20-20 Association
On October 30th, Alex Frishberg, senior partner of the law offices of Frishberg & Partners, held a presentation on the peculiarities of doing business in Ukraine for the representatives of the Russel 20-20 Association.
The Russel 20-20 Association unites the largest institutional investors involved in the research of potentially attractive markets for investment. The members of the Association include the top-management of global pension funds, foundations and assets management companies, together representing approximately USD 9 billion of investment capital. Each year they visit countries with developing financial markets with the aim of gathering additional information on the investment climate and analyzing existing investment opportunities. Their analysis is based on the evaluation of risks and profitability regardless of social, political and economical determinants of the country.
In his presentation, Mr. Frishberg pointed out that despite the announced state plan of massive legislative and social reforms and European integration, the current foreign investment legislation grants few advantages to investors in Ukraine. Cancellation of the free economic zones, VAT privileges and re-privatization process were named among the recent evidence of this tendency. Nevertheless, Mr. Frishberg stressed that Ukraine is one of the fastest growing markets and has opportunities no longer available in other countries, including extremely low labor and production costs.

Law offices of Frishberg & Partners announces establishment of its Intellectual Property department
Law offices of Frishberg & Partners established an intellectual property department. It is worth noting, that the firm has been providing legal IP-related services to clients for several years. Moreover, in 2003 Frishberg & Partners became a member of the International Trademark Association (INTA). Creation of the separate IP department is due to a drastic increase in clients. The new department is headed by Serhiy Potabenko, a lawyer with Frishberg & Partners since 1994.
